Minibuses with “Express Service” markings and “New York Paterson” destination signs run between Main and Broadway in Downtown Paterson, NJ and the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan, via Main Avenue and Route 3.
Buses operate on Main St. in Paterson, Main Ave. in Clifton and Passaic, after which they enter Route 21
Buses also exit the highway in Union City to make local stops along 30th and 31st streets
In New York, buses board on 8th Avenue between 41st and 42nd across the street from the Port Authority, and at gate 56 inside the terminal. Some buses that leave from inside the Port Authority bus Terminal are express to Clifton, skipping Union City.

For a time, the route was extended from downtown Paterson through Totowa to Willowbrook Mall. This extension was added in 2018, and discontinued around 2023-24.
